Approximately 24% of Louisiana's children and youth are identified as having special health care needs (source: National Survey of Children's Health). Spend the day with our technical experts and learn how you can improve your skills in the areas of developmental screening, youth health transitions, and care coordination.
What is the Resource Information Workshop?
The Resource Information Workshop (or RIW) is hosted by the Children's Special Health Services (CSHS) program housed within the Title V Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) program. It is a seven-hour event combining lectures from subject matter experts with a "health fair"-style vendor area composed of public health and community agencies and organizations. Four (4) free Continuing Education credits are offered to Registered Nurses, Social Workers, and Licensed Professional Counselors. The day is focused on the following topics:
- An overview of developmental screening and surveillance, as well as strategies for practice improvement
- An overview of regional public health and community services which support comprehensive care for children and youth with special health care needs
- Strategies to improve or implement care coordination services at the practice level
- Key elements of youth health transition services and why they are essential to improving health outcomes
After attending, participants should be able to apply knowledge of these areas to provide quality care to CYSHCN and thier families. The participant will also have increased knowledge of regional public health and community services available to them for families of CYSHCN.
Who should attend?
We welcome professionals from all disciplines that serve children and youth with special health care needs. This can include Registered Nurses, Social Workers, physicians and healthcare providers, counselors and mental health professionals, therapists, early interventionists, educators, and public health employees. We also welcome students from these disciplines. Complimentary lunch will be provided for all attendees.
